Kristen and Travis just recently bought a house out in the country outside of Durango. Dane had his weekend shifts coming up so I figured it'd be a good time to head out of town and me, Leanne and the boys went down for a visit. We decided we'd try to leave after Leanne got off work on Thursday and just get there really late hoping that the boys would sleep and we could drive straight through. Carter made it just south of Pueblo and slept for 4 1/2 of the 6 hour drive. Landon however with his aversion to sleeping in the car stayed up until about 11 and then only slept for 1 1/2 hours. Luckily he was quite content. He watched movies, sang and talked the whole time. He did have a couple times where he'd scream for about 5 seconds and then he'd go back to being just fine. I guess he just wanted to remind us he was still back there and was wanting to get out. I was surprised he didn't lose it since he was up so late but he was a little champ. They then ran around Kristen's place when we did finally get there but passed out once we went to bed. They were happy the next day as Kristen gave them all sorts of little presents like some big balloons.
Head lamps
This is Carter about 2 weeks after our trip - he sleeps with his head lamp and I've caught him a couple times passed out with it still on.
Confetti guns
We even got to try out their new canoe and go on a little boat ride. Carter was very excited about it and Landon was too except for having to wear a life jacket. He does not like extra layers of clothes at all.
Kristen had seen that the dinosaur train was going on while we were there so the boys were very excited to do that. It also happened to be on Leanne's birthday so what better way to spend your 32nd birthday!
The train ride was apparently very relaxing for both of them. Landon almost passed out
and Carter did.
Travis was super excited about it all the whole time :)
Digging for fossils at the stop
Travis was a good sport and helped the boys out. Both of the boys are obsessed with him (and Kristen) and don't leave him alone any time he's around.
Landon finding fossils too
There was a big bounce house with a slide there. You had to climb up a big hill to get to the slide though and Landon was getting nowhere on his own. I asked Carter to try to go help him and this was his solution. Didn't work out too well - but a nice effort. Leanne hopped in and helped give him a boost.
Landon was excited to meet Buddy the T-Rex (and try to get his tail) but Carter did not want a picture he told me
Travis even got involved in the juggling show
Overall they had a great time with it all
Carter loved all the space at their house - they have 5 or 6 acres and he liked looking for prairie dogs, or fairy dogs as he kept calling them. He really liked flying a kite which you can see here at the top of the picture. Shortly after this he let go and the wind carried the kite away.
It got stuck across the street in the telephone lines. We then probably looked pretty ridiculous trying to get it down. Eventually it got stuck on the barbed wire fence below and we got it.
Along with getting to ride the train on her birthday Leanne also got this beautiful cake decorated by Carter.
Landon thought it was tasty though
The pretty view from Kristen and Travis's back deck.
