Durango

Durango - what a fun place says Carter! After a long 6 1/2 hour drive we finally made it to Durango! Carter surprised us by how well he did in the car for that long with only one stop in the middle for lunch. I think I had a harder time being in the car for that long! He was VERY excited to be out of his car seat though and to finally see his Aunt Kristen. We headed out to dinner and he was pretty pissed when we put him back in his car seat. Luckily it was only for about 5 minutes though so he survived. We headed off to Purgatory (where Kristen works) for a day of skiing. Carter and Kristen were both very stylish in their matching orange shades.
Learning how to be a ski bum
Kristen got us a snowmobile ride up to the top of the mountain so we could hang out in the lodge there - here's a view from it.
We just camped out on the 3rd level and Carter did some playing...
And some napping...

One cool baby
Dane and Kristen enjoyed a day of skiing - I wasn't feeling too great so I just hung out with Carter for the day.
Our ride back down - it's nice to know someone that works at the resort! We got quite a few looks though as we were riding up and down. I had Carter strapped to me and then was holding his car seat off to the side so he'd have a place to nap. Not something you typically see while you're skiing though.
On our way back to Durango we stopped at some hot springs. They were 99 degrees - so the perfect temperature for Carter who LOVES warm water. He had a blast here. He also apparently thought the water tasted good and kept slurping it up every chance he could - luckily I don't think he got too much.
Lots of "swimming" around and splashing - so much fun.
Cooling off on the edge with Dad for a sec
This weekend was the Snowdown festival so there was a parade on Friday night that we went to. Dane and Kristen getting ready to watch - this is Dane's excited face.
Carter was passed out while we waited, as soon as the fire engines came by and blew their air horns it woke him right up.

One of the floats - there was a beach theme for this years festival so people were running around in bathing suits in 30 degree weather.

On Saturday we headed over to Wolf Creek for another day of skiing - here's me and Kristen riding up the lift

I went up in the morning while Dane hung out with Carter and then we switched so we both got to enjoy some skiing.
Dane getting ready to hike up to the top of the peak behind him.
Ready to get heading home
We left from Wolf Creek so that cut a couple hours off our drive, but 4 1/2 hours is still a pretty long time. Carter did well again though - we didn't even really take a break on the way home. I just reached back a gave him a couple bottles. We did have to stop for a quick poopy diaper change and this was Carter's reaction when I think he realized he was going to have to get back in his car seat...not a happy camper. He calmed down once the bouncing of the car made him pass back out again though.
