I can't BELIEVE my "little baby" is already one! The last year has flown by and been so much fun. Carter has changed so much, yet at the same time kept the characteristics he's displayed since the beginning. He loves to play, explore and be involved with everything. He's getting really quick at walking and is all over the place. He's even getting pretty good at walking in his shoes which was a sight at first. I said that he looked like he was walking around with flippers. He's definitely a mover and very much a boy. But at the same time he loves to sit and read when he's feeling a little bit sleepy (his favorites right now are 8 Silly Monkeys, 10 Little Ladybugs, Moo Baa Lalala, and the Care Bear's book of ABC's - which knocks him out every time). His blankie is his staple for every nap and before bedtime and he loves to bury his face in it and give it some love. Bath time is always a favorite and he couldn't be happier as long as water is involved - from the pool, a bucket of water, or just the dog bowl, he's happiest splashing around. He's still got a stubbornness to him which is probably most evident during meal time. If he doesn't want to eat, then there's no convincing him. He still loves his milk, but has slowed down on loving solids - except of course for Ritz, pears and cheese - he'd eat those all day, every day. He's slowly starting to get better about eating again and I think my mom relishes in the fact that he's stubborn and a picky eater (two things that I was/am). He loves to wrestle and thinks it's hilarious when he tackles us and loves a good tickle and zerberts. While Dane and I have had our moments of frustration and exhaustion I don't think either of us would trade anything. I'm already starting to panic and feel like he's growing up too fast - that he's already 1, preschool is right around the corner and then before I know it he'll be in high school! We just try to spend as much time as possible as a family and enjoy our time together. Yeah Bubs you made it through your first year - and so did we, with only a few minor bumps :)
On Friday which was Carter's actual birthday we had a pretty laid back day. He went to the doctors in the morning for his 1 year check up. He weighed in at 21 lbs 14.6 oz (40th %) and was 28 1/2" (15th %) - so he's basically a little square. He's doing good and right on track with everything developmentally and took his shots like quite the little man - only a few tears and then ok again. Dane was running shift so we went to go visit him at the firehouse and to have a birthday cookie.
Not quite as big as the tire on the engine - almost though!
Playing in dad's locker.
Happy boy - runny nose and all (the beginning of a cold was starting...)
We had a little birthday party for Carter and celebrated with some family and friends - he had a lot of fun with all the people there and it was so nice of everyone to come.

"You mean I can eat this whole thing by myself???"
He started out slowly
And then really dug into it. He didn't really eat too much though, just played with it. After a while he didn't like the frosting all over his finger so we wiped his hands off and then he could dig in again.
He had a couple bites once all the spectators left

For the really big box he seemed to decide that the best approach to opening it up was climbing on top and then ripping off the paper.

Me, Carter and Dane - at this point Carter was pretty much over the party. He'd completely skipped his afternoon nap and was not very happy about it. Soon after this picture he went down for a nap.
Since Carter wasn't around then to try out his new water table, Dane and Kristen thought they should try it out. Dane especially liked the cannon that shot water.
Carter tried out his table to next day and loved it - water, toys and a fountain - what more could a boy want?
