Well that was easy...

Last week we thought we'd start reading to Carter in his "big boy" bed before bedtime to get him used to laying in it.  My thought was we'd read to him for a week or two to get him used to being in there before we tried to have him sleep in there.  I've just heard from most people that they've had a tough time transitioning their kids from a crib.  On Wednesday night we went in the room to read and Carter was all excited to lay in bed and get tucked in under the sheets.  He seemed so happy to be in there we figured we'd just leave him in there and see what happened.  He'd gone down easily on the air mattress a few weeks ago but had woken up in the middle of the night, which is what I was expecting with his new bed as well.  At about 10:30 Dane and I heard a bang, but then no crying.  So we snuck into his room and he was passed out on the top of the pillows.  He was working his way onto the tops of the pillows and must have hit the wall but he was like this...
Completely passed out.
And this is how he's been every night since then - passed out.  (We did put some pillows up above him though so he doesn't slam into the wall again!)

So we were both thinking it would take some time/work to get him transitioned over but apparently not.  I was thinking nap time might be a little more challenging since it's light out and he can still see in the room.  The first time I tried to lay him down, he laid down and then about 5 minutes later I heard, "Mom??? Mom???" and then knocking on his door.  So I ended up putting him in his crib and we did that for nap time for the next few days and he continued to sleep through the night in the big bed.  Since he'd had a few nights under his belt we decided we'd try nap time in the bed again and he slept like a champ in the bed through both his naps yesterday.  Hopefully this sticks since soon enough we'll have lots of opportunities to be up in the middle of the night!  I don't feel like there's been many things with parenting that I've expected to take some work and it ends up being a piece of cake.  This may not last, but for now I'm pretty excited about how it turned out!

What great news! Katie transitioned super-easy too. Our problem was teaching her to get out of bed in the morning without calling for us to come get her every morning:) That's what happens with my first-born ruler follower!
