Aurora Reservoir

On Sunday we headed out to Aurora Reservoir.  It's just a few minutes from our house, yet we've never been there.  We're learning we need to take advantage of what's nearby!  It's a fairly small reservoir and you can't have motorized boats on it, but it's got a big beach area and would be great for fishing (after we went Dane announced he now wants a little fishing boat...)  Our little brown boy aka Carter loved playing in the sand and being able to walk into the water.  He tried with all his might to catch the minnows that swam near the shore but had no luck.  I'm sure we'll be heading back again and I'm sure Carter would also love a fishing boat.
Yay for olive skin that doesn't burn easy since Carter loves being outside, but does not love wearing his sun shirt

Landon and I had a nice time under the umbrella hanging out in the shade

Once again thoroughly enjoying the fan
Things like this are perfect for getting out.  Carter can run around while Landon can hang out.  We're starting to get the hang of this whole parenting of 2 and I think have finally realized that when something doesn't seem like a great place to take the kids - it probably won't be any fun for us.  It's also funny to see the differences in our parenting the second time around.  Poor Landon probably has to holler for just a bit longer than Carter did before we jump up to get him, germs are not so scary (Leanne pointed out that I don't sterilize bottles for Landon like I did for Carter - yep the dishwasher is good enough this time), and a partially full diaper doesn't usually get our attention.  So while our second child may be slightly more neglected in some aspects there are some things that he has better too.  Dane knows that sitting on the exercise ball is a quick way to ease crying, I've become quite the multi-tasker and can hold a bottle while doing many other things and we've got the whole teamwork thing figured out.  Dane's been awesome staying up with Landon and giving him his last bottle and then putting him down so I can put Carter to bed and then put myself to bed shortly there after.  This makes it much easier when both boys are up around 6:15 in the morning.  I think we're both also used to only 7 or less hours of sleep and have learned to function.  I also appreciate the fact that Dane has learned not to ask if the baby slept through the night - something your sleep deprived wife who's been up 3 or 4 times does not like to hear knowing that you slept soundly through the baby's crying... We've still got our moments of not knowing what to do and there are definitely good times and bad (like yesterday evening when I attempted to feed the dog after realizing I hadn't fed her breakfast (she's definitely the most neglected out of everyone) while trying to make dinner and then both boys started whining/crying as Dane walked in the door.  Welcome home to pandemonium - ahhh, life with children!  Wouldn't have it any other way though!

Haha. I loved this post. You have the cutest kids ever! I definitely get the "poor second child" syndrome. Levi is probably much more well adjusted with the divided attention than miss Katie. This poor 3rd child:) You should totally make the fort. The kids love it. A tip: Drill the dowel hole as small as the dowel will fit through. Ours is fairly loose and we have had to try and come up with some extra ways to keep it from slipping.
